A blood-curdling voice snarling, wailing and growling before switching into a girlish, sardonically sweet croon over all the shredding riffs, feral outpouring basslines and the relentless crash of the drums- unleashing the uncontrolled and untamable female rage that can tear you to shreds. That’s Babes in Toyland.

Isn't that a dream? Watching three very powerful women come together to create those ferocious grunge-embellished Noise-Punk, with their aggressive legs-apart stance, crushing the world with their brash, raw sounds, their music throbbing relentlessness into your heart and soul (and the mind)?

With angst-filled vicious lyrics, searing with such pain and bitterness, seeping with raw energy and dripping with punk attitude, their albums have been an absolute treat for me, my favourite being “Fontanelle” (obviously).

Filled with shrieks, screams and growls, simple yet energetic guitar riffs and equally energetic drum thuds to compliment it, all accompanied by the rip-your-insides-out rumbly basslines, “Fontanelle” is a freaky, exciting and vulgar carnival ride.

“Blood” and “Mother” are the more punky tracks with those razor-sharp snark. “Bruise Violet” (my very first Babes in Toyland song) has that catchy metal touch (“Bluebells”, too!). "Handsome and Gretel" (my absolute favourite) has got to be one of the most vulgar tracks I've ever heard, with lyrics like, but I love it.

Their music is compelling and emotionally powerful, even with all their rugged, violent and abrasive melodies. It’s sure to leave your chest heaving, mind fuzzy, and body quivering with all the adrenaline rush their songs could give you.
