Okay, so I decided to start out the first blog post with my all-time favourite band, whose song also gave me the name of my blog- Queen. Now, what can I say about Queen? I have been in this fanbase for almost...I guess all my life, and somehow I keep going back to them with a stronger passion every few years. It never ends, and I'm glad it never did because Queen is just- ah, it's a dream.
There's something special about the first 4 albums of Queen, I can't put my finger on it, but there is something about it that pulls me to it. In fact, the tracks of Queen II (Queen's second studio album; one of their finest works and my favourite album) helped me write many of my stories, fanfics and poems. It boosted my creativity, letting me explore even the deepest trenches of my story-writing artistry. Queen II is packed with magical, mystical and fantastical lyrics, a sort of story-centric theme, and sonically impressive musical brilliance that I believe can easily stimulate any creative writing and not just that! If you're someone who relies on auditory stimulation, Queen II is for you (incantatory effect of wordplays and sounds). Oh, I haven't got to the fun part yet: The songs (both the lyrics with the music) beautifully capture the essence of the story being sung!
I mean, Queen II is just a musical treat for any passionate, creative person. I listen to the entire album on repeat when I'm writing because it's a creative fuel for me that I just need to write. Okay, so because I'm a big fan of the pre-76' albums and songs by Queen, that certainly does not mean I don't care for the others. I do like them too, but the first 4, especially Queen II, have a special place in my heart.
But I must say. Queen has really got its clutches tightly on me. I can never leave that fandom. It's just held me tightly, suffocating me at times, but I love it so much (sounds like some sort of teenage toxic romance). I still watch the 1981 Montreal Concert Video over and over again, and I just can never get enough of it- I still keep jumping, bobbing my head and doing some silly dance to it. In fact, their songs have pushed me to write a research article (on Bohemian Rhapsody) for my college, and even better, I used to listen to Queen when studying, mostly from the albums The Works, where you've got some catchy and poppy musical numbers like Radio Gaga, Hammer to Fall; and Jazz being the other album with some fun and playful tracks like Fat Bottom Girls, Don't Stop me Now, Fun It and Mustapha. I'm the kind who writes and learns, so having something upbeat and zany to listen to just helped me.
Now coming to the fandom side of Queen, yes, I am very active on the Queen RPF side as a reader, and the community is just so dynamic, so passionate and just...just brilliant. You can feel their intensity coming off through the screen, and that's its beauty. It's like a rabbit hole, one you can't escape because it just tightly latches onto you. It's so much fun and amusing to be there. I actually wonder if any of the Queen members would ever read stuff that's being written about them on Tumblr or AO3. What would Freddie think of those, because I have this image that he'd be definitely aware of what's happening in the Queen fandom.
Speaking of Freddie, WHY DOES HE HAVE SUCH A MAGICAL VOICE? It's filled with so much passion, and the lyrics flow so smoothly. And the way his voice escalates from the deep dark throaty growls all the way to the joyful cascades of coloratura. And, of course, his ability to be a damn good frontman and the way he lets all his imperishable passion go into it. He could prowl around the stage with his unholy growls or glide across the stage with his gentle serenades. His ability to interact with the crowd was incredible and his charisma dripped in droves. Powering through Freddie's passionate voice are the virtuoso guitarist Brian May's intricate tunes, John Deacon's melodic basslines and dominant riffs that provided the perfect backbone between the rhythm and melodies of the band and Roger Taylor's passionate and tuneful beats of the drums. The very sight of Queen (through whatever concert videos I've seen) was drenched in power- so addictive and raw.
It gets even more raw and vicious when they perform songs like 'Get Down Make Love' which are filled with risque lyrics, there's something so devilish about it, yet the very fact that it's ultimately "Lovemaking" and not plain shagging or fucking still puts that, you know, a romantic touch laced with obscenities.
(Actually don't you think 'Get Down Make Love' sounds better than 'Get Down Get Fucked' or 'Get Down Get Laid' or 'Get Down Get Boned'?)
Queen's live performances are so mesmerising. These guys and their live performances. I have seen so many (or whatever I can dig up on the net), but I can never get enough of it. I never shrink my eyes from it. Excitement always wraps around my bones and muscles. It's so intoxicating. Oh, what would I give to see one of their live performances in real life and not on the screen?
Anyway, that's my first blog post; thank you so much for reading, and I hope you enjoyed the read.
