Okay, okay, okay. I'm not gonna lie, but I was quite ashamed of myself because I discovered this gem of a band, Demonic Resurrection, and their gem of an album Dashavatar last year. Anyway, leaving my shame aside and coming back to the blog, the Demonic Resurrection is a blackened death metal band from India, and I think they also lean a lot towards the folk metal genre because of the heavy incorporation of Hindu mythology and classical Indian elements in their music. And their music is PHENOMENAL- aggressive heavy metal but melodic. They create mind-blowing monstrous slabs of symphonic death metal. It's incredible how they could blend two contrasting and odd genres to create this melodic folk hybrid, but they did it.

Of course, I started with their album Dashavatar. I absolutely love how these guys composed a sick metal track based on my grandparents' bedtime stories and those Indian classical instruments just shredding and blending into the music. So mesmerising. The whole album is an enthralling musical experience. It's a perfect blend of ethnic folk, black, and melodic death metal. The entire album grips you, making you want to hear more. You crave for more. And the lyrics, don't get me started with that- it gives me chills. It's dramatic. The storytelling is brilliant, and you know, it just pulls you into the world of Hindu lore.

The album is basically about the ten avatars of Vishnu. So each track thematically represents a different avatar, and each song stands on its own, it becomes its own distinct entity. Each track has got a wide range of vocal styles and instrumentalisation. It's diverse and innovative. I absolutely love the chimeric blend of guitars, sitars, tabla and, of course, the vocals. Just lets you achieve that bloodthirsty bliss of listening to death metal. It assaults every sense in your body.

"Varaha-The Boar" was my personal favourite. Got me really good with their growls and clean vocals. I loved the growls in this one- it was a very satisfying pitch. The lyrics of this one are my favourite; it gave me chills. Artistic expression at its finest. This one, in particular, took me back to the days when I would read LOTR listening to Ensiferum. Actually, if you're the kind who loves to listen to music while reading, you should try listening to Dashavatar (Ensiferum too). Works best with fantasy. Repeat mode was on infinity for this one. Krishna: The Cowherd was pretty good too! The shredding guitars, the drumming- I loved the melodies of this one, especially the opening bit. It's just beautiful. I was in tears, guys. It's so beautiful. The soaring melodies were so uplifting and cheery. If you're having a bad day, listen to this. If you're an anime fan, the opening bit of Krishna will remind you of Fairytail's theme song. "Matsya - The Fish" just blew my mind. What a piece. The way they combined sitar and death metal over there- it is just so...so perfect. This one's a fucking killer. This one actually gives a deeper dimension to melodic death metal. At the beginning of Matsya, there's a monologue about God, that ends with "Man made demons, man made gods". Got goosebumps. Also, if you're listening to the album, please start with Matsya, that's the first avatar. "Kalki: The Destroyer of Faith" was the best. It was the darkest one and with the lyrics "Man made demons, man made gods". The starting bit sounded so sinister and eerie. The whole song is laced with a dystopian tone (if that makes sense?). "Parashurama: The Axe Wielder" was brutal, violent and fast. It felt like each note vibrated violently. You can actually feel Parshurama's murderous rage from this track and that's what I love about it. It basks in that kinetic rush of thrash metal.

The entire album is a masterpiece, you guys. And, of course, a creativity booster like Queen II. And a great shot of adrenaline. It's more than just dark, brutal music, overly down-tuned guitars, drum blasts, and heavy lyrics. It's so therapeutic. It just seems to push all the boundaries of your senses. God, I really can't stop listening to these guys.
